ToolSense works with sensitive client data: when properly implemented, the system is likely to contain information on all key inventory and machinery. For this reason, ToolSense started to emphasize security from the onset to guarantee that no competitive business information leaks. However, an active arms race between hackers and developers creates a potentially hostile environment. For every newly implemented security measure, a new countermeasure is designed, requiring constant vigilance from developers.

Solution

The Keenethics developers served as a source of additional security expertise for the ToolSense team, assisting it in upgrading its authentication service. We strengthened the already robust ToolSense security system together with the in-house team of the company. Firstly, we refactored the authentication system to further minimize risks and address some of the newest threats, many of which, while purely theoretical, nonetheless required urgent attention. Secondly, we also added a novel system of validation for the clients to greatly reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

Challenge

When ToolSense emerged on the market, the IoT asset management field was in its infancy: many existing capabilities within the field didn't exist yet. ToolSense had to undergo a long evolution to become the product it is today. Projects with a long development history often face situations where some earlier modules no longer correspond to the current design standards established by their maintainers. For ToolSense, this led to a situation where certain modules within the app required updates due to changes in development criteria, which originated from the accumulated experience of company managers and developers.

Solution

Keenethics developers set out to update the modules containing outdated design frameworks. Building on our expertise in the spheres of manufacturing and agriculture, we rebuilt certain parts of the app to better correspond to the novel standards of ToolSense and offer an upgraded user experience for its customers.
